My name is Kev Hughes I run Charlie 21 Dog Services. I have been around dogs all my life and can't get enough of them!

I have had a number of careers prior to settling on professional dog walking. After leaving school I joined the Royal Navy and travelled all over the world before meeting my wife and settling in East Lothian. After which I joined Lothian and Borders Police (Now Police Scotland) and served in various roles before retiring from the service after nearly 28 years to pursue my love of dogs.

I have extensive knowledge of East Lothian and know numerous and varied walking areas. Perfect for taking your furry friends on adventures! You can totally trust me to treat your dog like my own.

I have been approved by East Lothian Council, meeting all the necessary requirements and regulations to provide dog walking services in the area.

I understand the importance of ensuring the safety and security of your dog. That's why I have comprehensive insurance coverage for all the services I provide.

I am also ITC first aid trained for dogs. Accredited by the SQA.

I am ico. (information Commissioner's office) registered so your data is safe with me!

Your peace of mind is important to me. I have undergone full disclosure checks, so you can trust that your dog is in safe hands.

GROUP WALKS

I provide group walks with no more than 5 dogs. I have 3 slots available. a morning slot from 08:00 a lunchtime slot at 11:30 and an afternoon slot at 14:30. Due to pick up and drop off times your dog may be away from home longer . They will be taken to various locations throughout the East and Mid Lothian areas. Walks do not include pick up or drop off times. (All times are approximate)

£15 PER HOUR (2ND DOG SAME HOUSEHOLD £12)

CONSULTATION

Once contact is made with myself I will arrange to attend at your home address and introduce myself and say hi to you and your dog. This is free and allows me to have a chat with you and go through specific needs and complete relevant paperwork.

Dogs require to be fully vaccinated and up to date.

I will not take dogs who are aggressive or have a history of aggression.

Collars and Identity tags are essential.

Any dog I take on will be on probation!! Before I take them on full time I will take them on at least two trial walks (Charged for) during which I will assess their behaviour and temperament.

I will walk your dog on a lead until I am happy with their recall and you have signed written consent allowing me to walk them off lead.

SOLO WALKS

Solo walks are provided for dogs who due to behaviour or age require a more personal touch. Or indeed upon clients request.

ADVENTURE WALKS

These are a bespoke two hour walk in the wilds of East Lothian. Your dog will be stimulated by their surrounds challenging their senses and fitness!!

(I apologise in advance they may be returned slightly sleepy!)

THESE WALKS WILL TAKE PLACE ON A WEEKEND WITH NO MORE THAN TWO DOGS AND WILL DEPEND ON INTEREST. CHECK OUT MY SOCIAL MEDIA FOR DATES.

DOGS GET DIRTY AND WET!!
CLEANING POLICY.

When I have care and charge of your respective canine companion it is inevitable that they will get wet and muddy during walks. Clearly this is dependent on weather, terrain and breed of dog. Some dogs just love a wee roll around in a muddy puddle, swim in a pond, river or sea and on occasion have a good old squish about a pile of fox poo or a dead bird!! I will encourage your dog to have fun when out and about and this may mean they get dirty.

I will always do my very best to clean your dog off prior to returning them to you. I have facilities in my van allowing me to rinse them off and towel them down when required. But on the rare occasion I am unable to clean your dog down due to factors out with my control such as weather conditions I will contact you to make you aware.

If the weather is wet/snowy or cold and you have one, please have a dog coat/robe available to be put on when I pick up your dog. I use an Equafleece (Lots of similar brands out there) on my own dog. It’s a fantastic bit of kit for your dog.

There will be times when you won’t be home when I am dropping your dog back off, so please tell me in advance the best place to house your dog on it’s return. That way I can help mitigate any damage that may be caused and assist in keeping the house clean.
